 Honeyflow Farm welcomes you to our U-Pick vineyard with 20+ varieties of wine, jelly & table grapes.

We also sell bulk raw honey (weekends in September only from our Farm Market) - by the pound & in your containers, candles and many other products produced from our honeybee colonies located at 10 locations in surrounding counties.

We have been producing and selling honey and beeswax candles for more than 20 years, about 10 years ago we have increased the varieties of candles we make and have also created an on Line Store where you can purchase honey and candles right from your computer all year and not have to wait until September. You can even make arrangements to pick up your order when it is ready from our farm.

We are the largest vineyard in South East Michigan and are located in Dryden, Michigan (southern end of Lapeer County & 1/2 hr north of Rochester).

Our Farm Market is open only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Labor Day until mid October.  Please visit our website often for details of fall activities.

 


 

About Our Farm

Bill & Pat Schnute

Honeyflow Farm was started as a vineyard only in 1973 in Clawson, Michigan by Bill and Pat Schnute.

With a desire to increase the size of what had become a successful and satisfying operation, a new vineyard along with the honey farm was started in Troy, Michigan in 1976.

In 1985 the vineyard, honey farm, and candles shop were moved to a twenty acre site in Dryden, Michigan. This present location will allow for further expansion and to better serve our customers. Honeybee colonies are maintained throughout Macomb, Oakland, Lapeer and St. Clair counties. The vineyard now grows more than twenty varieties of grapes, where customers can select and pick the variety of their choice. The vineyard includes wine, seedless, jelly and juice varieties of grapes.

Do you filter your beeswax?

A more natural, unfiltered wax is preferred for our handmade candles at Honeyflow Farm. We use only "straining" (with cheesecloth type material) and "settling"...

Do grapes need a frost to ripen?

Absolutely not. There are early and late season varieties, an early season grape left on the vine until frost will be mushy and overripe. Once a frost hits the vine and all the leaves are burned off, any further photosynthesis or ripening will cease.

What time of the year should I prune my vines?

Grape vines may be pruned any time that the leaves are off and they are dormant. Many vineyards with huge acres of vines to prune may work all winter, but we prefer to prune in the spring.

How wide are your tapers and do they vary in size?

We guarantee that ALL OF OUR TAPERS WILL VARY IN SIZE because they are all hand made. The diameter of our 9.5 & 12 inch tapers are usually between 3/4 and 7/8 inch (we try to keep them just under 7/8 inch).

How much honey does a honeybee produce in a year?

Although a colony of honeybees (40,000 or more in the summer) can easily produce over a hundred pounds of honey, a single honeybee produces only about a teaspoon full in her life.

How do you propagate grape vines?

Grape vines are propagatged by taking dormant shoots pruned off during the spring. These 3 to 4 bud long cuttings are planted in garden soil and grown one year.
