Swedish Hill Vineyard

Family-owned and operated by Dick and Cindy Peterson, Swedish Hill is one of the largest wineries in the region. The Peterson Family first planted vines on their Cayuga Lake farm in 1969 and have gradually expanded their plantings to include approximately 12 different grape varieties covering 30 acres. After 20 years of growing and selling grapes to area wineries, the Petersons crushed their first grapes in 1985 and opened Swedish Hill Winery in 1986. Just 1,300 cases were produced that year; this year we produced nearly 40,000 cases of award-winning wines and champagnes. Swedish Hill is recognized as one of the top award-winning wineries in New York State, having won state, national and international acclaim.

In 1997, the Petersons opened a second winery, Goose Watch, also on Cayuga Lake. The emphasis at Goose Watch is on the unusual, featuring a selection of wines that are not very common in other Finger Lakes wineries, such as Viognier, Pinot Gris, Melody, Diamond, Merlot and Lemberger. A complete list of current offerings including tasting notes can be found on the wine catalog page, where you can also order Swedish Hill wines online .

Tastings and Gift Shop
Wine tastings are offered daily at the winery. And in the gift shop we offer beautifully decorated gift baskets with wine or champagne, as well as personalized labels, wine racks, hand-painted glassware, wine jellies, gourmet mustards and dressings, and much more. To view the choices of personalized labels, and to order, see the personalized labels page.

Events
We invite you to attend one of our many annual festivals, including: our "Scandinavian Festival" in June, Wine and Art Festival in August, our Champagne and Dessert Wine Festival in November, and Santa Lucia Day in December. Please see the Winery Events calendar for more information.

We tasted a lot of their wines and brought many of them home.
Some of our favorites were:

Viking White - A blend of Vidal, Pino Gris, Cayuga, Reisling & Vignoles

Cayuga White - I really liked how they made their cayuga!

Delaware - Their delaware was very soft and delicious.

Svenska White - (Svenska means "Swedish") A good anytime wine made from Diamond, Golden Muscat, Delaware & Catawba.

Marechal Foch - Foch is always one of my favorites.

Viking Red - A great dry red wine made from Rougeon, Marechal Foch, Baco & Cabernet Franc.

Svenska Red - (Svenska means "Swedish") A "grapey" semi seet red wine made from Concord, Delaware, Rougeon, Isabel, Diamond & Vincent.

Some of the vines we saw upon entering the vineyard - It was a very rainy & stormy day, some of the local roads were even flooded and impassable.

Barns & Equipment. I don't think the press on the left is what they make their thousands of gallons of wine with - but it made a nice picture.
