GW-5 Grape Information

Geneva White#5 Wine Grape GW-5	No Image Available until Fall

Ripening Season	Ripens Mid September - (GW-5) - An un-named Cornell University hybrid that makes an aromatic German-style wine with a slight American Muscat flavor or an excellent white grape juice.

Usage Notes Wine	We have used GW-5 in our vineyard for juice and wine. The wine has a nice fruity flavor like reisling. The clusters a small and tight (I call them little hand grenades). Click here for GW-5 winemaking info .....

Variety Notes More Info	Geneva White 5 (GW 5)- is a progeny of 'Pinot blanc' x 'Ontario'. It has not been named by Cornell University. They claim there are too many other varieties of this same style. We propagated this variety many years ago from Karl Bailey's Vineyard in Troy, Michigan. Karl was innovative in planting new varieties. Another un-named variety we received from Karl was "Vesta" (his name for it). There is some of it planted in a generic white row we call "White Wine".

Where can I Purchase GW-5 Wine?	GW-5 is not a commonly grown grape and you will have to make the wine yourselves. It may be included in White wine blends that can be purchased in Michigan from local wine shops and grocery stores or may be purchased on line from: St. Julien Winery Peterson & Sons - Natural Wines Due to regulations wine cannot be shipped into Michigan from other states. Stop by these wineries to purchase this style of wine. Can I get grapes to make Ice Wine at Honeyflow Farm

No - Due to the timing of our harvest season, they are not available. Ice wines are made from grapes harvested very late, probably in November in our area. The clusters are harvested and pressed half frozen.
