Greetings To All The Members and Supporters of the
Choir
The Lapeer County Concert Choir's Newsletter is
published in December and May each year. Our 60
member Choir (formerly known as Imlay City Community
Choir) directed by Louis Canter, has earned a reputation
for presenting quality sacred music concerts. Because
of that reputation, we draw members from various Michigan
communities including Lapeer, Flint, Imlay City, Romeo,
Rochester, Dryden, Almont, North Branch, and Capac.
Many of our members sing in their own church choir as
well as with our group. We perform concerts in December
and also in May each year.

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
The Messiah, Handel's most successful and best known
oratorio, was composed in the fall of the year 1741
in 24 days. It was first performed at a concert
given for charitable purposes at Dublin, Ireland on
April 13, 1742 with Handel conducting the performance
in person.
This Christmas we are performing selected choruses
from the Messiah for the centerpiece of our 35th Christmas
season. Mark your calendars
for Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Trinity United Methodist
Church in Lapeer at 7:00 p.m; Sunday, December 8, 2002
at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dryden at 4:00 p.m.
and Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Sacred Heart
Church in Imlay City at 7:00 p.m.
Additional selections such as Go Tell It
On The Mountain, The Birthday of a King
and O Holy Night arranged by John Rutter
will also be performed.

Our History from our start in 1968, including
programs from recent concerts.
1968 - A handful of church choirs in the Imlay City
area, backed by ministers from local churchs, joined
together and asked Jerry Pakkala to direct the new choir.
Jerry had recently graduated from Oakland University
with a bachelor of arts degree in music education, and
had been hired by the Imlay City School System as the
choir director. Our first concert was a mix of Christmas
anthems. The Imlay City Community Choir was born. to continue......

How to Support the Choir
|
| |
The
Lapeer County Concert Choir is supported in many ways.
Our audience supports us through ticket sales. Our choir
members support us by singing in the choir and also by
delivering posters and other promotional material. Make
sure you send a copy of this newsletter to all your friends
to help support us. Our contributors are another very
important part of the choir. Each year their donations
help provide music, instrumentalists, promotion and much
more. Please consider supporting
the choir through our contributors program. Your name
or your business will be published on our programs, website
and newsletters. We urge everyone to support our contributors
as much as they support us!
