January
in the Honeyfarm
|
| |
The honeybees
are not "hibernating" like a lot of people assume
they are this time of the year. They are very much alive!
The honeybees cluster into a football sized mass of bees
inside the colony. Outside of the cluster it is ambient
temperature, but inside it may be as much as 90 degrees.
The bees on the outside of the cluster become quite cold
& act as insulation, and every so often they move
inside the cluster & other bees take their place.
The honeybees
keep warm by consuming honey and "shivering"
to create heat. Honeybees will rarely freeze to death
inside the hive but if they run out of food , or cannot
get to food inside the hive they will perish.

January
in the Vineyard!
|
| |
Grapes
do not grow well with snow on the ground so there is not
much activity in the Vineyard.
However,
we are making plans to make something like a "virtual
vineyard" or "movie" showing how a particular
grape vine changes throughout the year. I plan on taking
pictures every month (or more frequently) and making something
that can be viewed on our website.

our Vineyard Page!
