Pure Beeswax Hand-Dipped Tapers
How We Make Them at the Farm

We have been making beeswax candles for more that 20 years. Our hand-dipped style, sold in pairs, are one of the most popular items sold on our site.

Beeswax candles are started by stringing a frame with candle wicking. Each frame starts by holding 6 pairs of candles. The frames are dipped into 175 degrees beeswax, cooled, and then the procedure is repeated. After the candle is about 1/2 size, the frame is split apart into two frames. The dipping procedure is continued until the candle is finished.

Below is part of a 39 image pictorial we created to show exactly how we dip candles.

Most of our candlemaking is done with our candle tank. We had to replace it in 2004 so we have a picture of it before we installed it. It is really 4 separate stainless steel tanks that are put in a barrel that is filled with water and kept at 180 degrees. (thermostatically controlled) Raw beeswax is shown added to one of the compartments. The tank is also insulated to help keep the temperature even.

Nativity Set, Hot Items this Christmas Season!

The figurines in our hand crafted nativity set vary from 2 inches to 6 inches tall. They are made from pure, natural scent beeswax and do have a wick in all but the baby Jesus figure, although most people will display them rather than burn them. They may also be special ordered without the wicks.

November/December at the Honey Farm

The Retail Honey Farm is closed now but the seasons work is not finished yet.

At the time this article is written we have not finished removing and extracting all of our honey yet. We like to have this completed by Thanksgiving.

The picture shows beehives that have honey supers on them and hopefully the bees have filled them with honey. The bees will live in the bottom 2 or 3 boxes over winter and any boxes above that contain honey in them will be harvested.

The heavy boxes are removed from the hives and the honeybees are "blown" off with a blower. The boxes are loaded onto our trailer and taken back to the farm.

We are careful to make sure there is plenty of honey left for the bees to live on over the winter. The back of the hive is lifted and I can tell by the weight if it is heavy enough, if it is too light, we will leave an extra box of honey on the hive.

After all the honey has been harvested, we return to the bee yards and wrap the colonies with plastic to help the bees keep warm over the winter. This is the last thing we do for the bees this year.

People think that the honeybees hibernate over winter. They do not! They eat honey to stay warm and remain in a tight cluster - sometimes the center of the cluster can be 90 degrees when it is zero outside.
