Greetings!

This is our Weekly Picking Update (not our regular newsletter.) A few days before the weekend we check the vineyard and make notes of ripening conditions. It is not a guarantee of what is available, but what the typical picking conditions are.

Grapes are Earlier this year! Don't Wait!

This is week 1 of 6 that we are open - our season is short so mark your calendars & visit us. Many people print our ripening sheet & bring it to the vineyard with them to act as a picking guide. Remember we are only open Friday, Saturday & Sunday and not during the week.

Our week 1 grape winner is summer@avoc
They will have 40 lbs of grapes that they can pick for free.

NEW GRAPE PAGES!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have a new section on our website that helps you decide which grapes to pick. Go to our Vineyard page and discover all the varieties. Each grape page has info on its location in the vineyard, winemaking with this variety, images and more.
Here is the one for Concord grapes just as an example.
Every grape variety has a webpage!
Use our Stemmer-Crusher
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since we no longer have grape juice available, many people now use the stemmer-crusher and strainer bags that we have available at the vineyard. The bags are also part of our “Beginners Winemaking Kit”.

The stemmer-crusher is very easy to use. Just pay for your grapes and visit the crusher area by our barn. Make sure you have enough leak proof containers to bring your must back home in.

We will have some 8 gallon pails available this year - a great size to use with the strainer bags and crusher.

The strainer bags are very useful if you do not have a press. You can ferment right in them for red wines or for whites you can still squeeze the juice out using them. Sometimes people ferment a day on the white skins to soften them in the strainer bags.

If there is still juice left in the bag, you can also try making a second run wine. Add more sugar and water and let it ferment. It will make another batch of wine - but much lighter in flavor and body.

Our Stemmer-Crusher is easy to use!
